A fire broke out this afternoon in the Mumnevo area near Svilengrad.
The fire crossed the Maritsa highway and headed towards Svilengrad, announced the head of the Regional Service for Fire Safety and Population Protection in Svilengrad Ivelin Tonev, quoted by BTA.
Due to the smoke, the Maritsa highway is closed to traffic, the Road Infrastructure Agency announced.
Traffic is diverted through the Novo Selo junction on road E-80 to road I-8 via the Pastrogor junction. The situation is very complicated, Tonev explained. The fire is developing in several outbreaks. There are currently six teams of firefighters on site, and more reinforcements are expected, he added.
A fire also broke out in the Haskovo village of Klokotnitsa, which affected several yards before being brought under control. The cause was the preparation of winter food on an open fire.
