The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office (SGP) brought 21-year-old V. I. as an accused for a crime under Art. 343, para. 4, sub-para. 3, b. „a“ and b. „b“, sub-para. 1, sub-para. 342, para. 1, item 3 of the Criminal Code.
The pre-trial proceedings were initiated on 15.08.2025 as a matter of urgency in view of the scene of the incident and are being conducted in the Sector “Investigation of Transport Crimes“ at the Department “Investigation“ at the SDVR under the leadership and supervision of the SGP.
In the initial stage of the investigation, evidence was collected that the supervising prosecutor assessed as sufficient to bring V. I. to criminal liability.
The charge against him is that on August 15, 2025, at about 01:45 a.m. in the city of Sofia, while driving a passenger car “AUDI RS5“, moving on the roadway of “Konstantin Velichkov“ Blvd. with the direction of travel from “Alexander Stamboliyski“ Blvd. to “Vazkresenie“ Blvd. and in the area of the intersection with “Vazkresenie“ Blvd. violated the traffic rules and caused a traffic accident by leaving the roadway and with the front part of the car he was driving crashed into the left side of the bus stopped at a red light on Blvd. “Vazkresenie“. As a result, he carelessly caused the death of a passenger in the bus and bodily injuries to four other people.
The car that the accused was driving was seized during the inspection of the scene of the accident. The court may seize in favor of the state the motor vehicle that was used to commit the crime and is the property of the perpetrator, and when the perpetrator is not the owner - to award its equivalent.
The accused is a legally competent driver, therefore, by a decree of a prosecutor at the State Police Headquarters, a measure of procedural coercion was imposed on him - temporary withdrawal of his driving license. By order of a prosecutor at the SGP, the accused was detained for a period of up to 72 hours.
On 17.08.2025, the SGP is to submit to the Sofia City Court a request for a preventive measure of "detention in custody" in relation to the accused.
The investigation into the case continues with questioning of witnesses, conducting the necessary expert examinations, as well as other investigative actions to clarify all circumstances of the case in accordance with the requirements of the law.
