The owner of the car that crashed into a public transport bus in Sofia spoke to NOVA. The detained Viktor Iliev was driving someone else's car. One person died in the accident and six others were seriously injured.

On social networks, Viktor shared clips of drifting expensive cars in front of the Alexander Nevsky temple and wads of money. It turns out that the white car from the accident does not belong to him or his family. The owner explained to NOVA that he did not know Viktor and did not know that his car was in it because he gave it to a third person.

„I have no idea. I gave the car to someone else for use. I found out in the morning when the police called me”, he explained.

The tragic incident was reported minutes before 02:00. Many police and ambulance teams arrived at the scene. It turns out that the driver had taken his license at the beginning of the month, and in a short time he had become a repeat offender.

The video from the security cameras shows the car jumping out at very high speed from the intersection of the “Vazkresenie” and “Konstantin Velichkov”, flies over the sidewalk and tram tracks and crashes into a bus stopped at a red light.

“Just yesterday Viktor Iliev received 2 tickets”, explained the deputy head of the 3rd traffic police station Stanislava Todorova.

The police explained that in the two weeks since Viktor Iliev has had a license, he has had a number of violations.

”He was born in 2004. He has been legally competent since August 1 of this year. So far, he has had a total of 6 tickets for minor violations”, explained Commissioner Martin Tsurinski, deputy head of the “Traffic Police” at the SDVR.

”Obviously, the 7th becomes deadly. We insist on changes in the law. "Such people should be removed from the road after three violations," said Transport Minister Grozdan Karadjov.

In March, Viktor Iliev passed the theory part of the course, and in July the practical part. The Ministry of Transport released videos of the exam of the
21-year-old man.

“The driving school that conducted his training and then organized the exam will be checked” , Karadjov assured.

The school refused to comment due to the ongoing investigation.

“His tests for alcohol and drugs are negative. The bus driver was issued medical examination tickets, as his health condition did not allow samples to be taken on site, explained Commissioner Martin Tsurinski, Deputy Chief of the “Traffic Police”, SDVR

The Sofia Motor Transport Department reported that as a result of the serious accident, the bus was cut open in order to remove the passenger car from it. From the inspection, it can be concluded that the passenger compartment is completely damaged and beyond repair.
