Cornelia Ninova: The water crisis has taken on enormous proportions. It has affected over half a million people - 1

The water crisis has taken on enormous proportions. It has affected over half a million people. It threatens agriculture and industry.

This is what the leader of "Unruly Bulgaria" Cornelia Ninova is sounding the alarm about on "Facebook".

Its solution must start with stopping the thefts, retribution and justice in 4 actions:

  • Finding those responsible for cutting the pipes of the Irrigation systems and handing them over for scrap. These people should be brought to court and have them pay for the damages out of their own pockets. (I filed a number of reports about this back in 2017. So far nothing.)
  • Discover the companies and people who embezzled 500 million leva allocated for dam repairs. 1 out of 500 has been repaired. In 2022, as a minister, based on an audit by the National Audit Office, I prepared a report to the National Assembly about this colossal fraud. By the time I reached parliament, it was classified and I could not present it in the hall. The report should be released! The guilty should be tried and the money returned.
  • The owners of over 200 private #HPPs, who are currently draining water and earning millions while people wash themselves with jugs, should be brought to justice. Many of the owners are politicians, MPs or people related to them. To conduct a complete audit of whether they exceed their permitted limit in schemes with the Water and Sewerage Ministry and #MESW and to seize the money earned from this. To stop all private hydropower plants until the crisis is resolved.
  • The Ministers of Environment and Water and Regional Development should leave immediately, because they are inadequate and incompetent.

Responsibility for water is scattered among so many institutions that de facto no one is responsible for them. Proposals from DPS-New Beginning A National Water Board is like nothing. Another stupidity, a waste of time.

Another unnecessary body, where all the ministries, regional governors, mayors, and the Water and Sewerage Holding will gather to wag their tongues and shift responsibility.

The working solution is - a single body should be authorized to manage and manage Bulgaria's water resources.
