"Nothing new happened yesterday. The decision is some kind of PR request that changes nothing". This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by PP-DB MP Yavor Bozhankov - a member of the Environment Committee, which held an extraordinary meeting yesterday due to the water shortage.
"Before the committee, we made a public statement that this is an attempt by the ruling party to transfer the responsibility of the executive branch to the legislative branch, because that is exactly what it is - some kind of action that aims for a PR effect, seeing that the severity of the crisis is obviously too much for the ministers and for them to find a concrete solution. 7 months ago, we were the ones who proposed and a temporary committee on water shortages was created. Then the ruling party, rather arrogantly, proposed their own chairman. She worked for 7 months. Experts got involved there and she did a pretty good job. She also came out with a report, extremely detailed. 7 months of work. And in the end, this report was not submitted to the National Assembly by Speaker Kiselova. This report has been languishing somewhere for another month. Suddenly, within one day, they convene this commission and take urgent measures. They haven't taken these measures for 7 months".
According to him, the decision taken yesterday during the commission repeats the powers and obligations of the ministries, which they have by law anyway. There was nothing new yesterday, he was categorical.
"We were there to propose our draft decision, which aims to redirect funds from other projects that are not a priority. The managers rejected it. "With or without us, they would have held this meeting," Bozhankov explained on the program "Before Everyone."
He noted the difference between the report of the temporary commission on water scarcity and the decisions taken yesterday: "The report envisages a single water management body, but as a state agency or national board. What the government adopted yesterday is a mechanical collection of institutions that exist anyway."
According to him, yesterday's crisis plan is more aimed at calming society. According to him, it will have no effect.
For him, the current water crisis is a consequence of 12 years of GERB rule in the sector. "GERB is indebted to society regarding the water supply infrastructure or the missing water supply infrastructure in many cities", the MP expressed his opinion.
He declared that they have a consistent political position that they will not take joint actions with "Vazrazhdane", including votes of no confidence.
