Minister of Energy Zhecho Stankov met with the Ambassador of Japan to Bulgaria H.E. Hisashi Michigami. The two discussed the possibilities for deepening bilateral cooperation, with the emphasis placed on the strategic partnership in the field of energy.

„Bulgaria and Japan are stepping on a solid foundation in their relations, especially in the energy sector. Our work so far has proven the potential for expanding cooperation and I am convinced that together we can implement large-scale initiatives of common interest," said Minister Stankov.

During the meeting, he informed the ambassador about his upcoming visit to Osaka, where a number of companies from the energy sector will participate in the World Exhibition EXPO 2025. As part of its participation, the Bulgarian side will present key energy projects aimed at establishing our country as a balancer and guarantor of security of supply in the entire region.

Among them are the construction of four new PAWPPs, energy storage projects, new nuclear capacities at the “Kozloduy" NPP and other initiatives of long-term strategic importance.

The EXPO 2025 World Exhibition in Osaka is a key platform for cooperation between countries and a place for building partnerships in various sectors.

During the meeting, the joint experience with “Toshiba” from more than 30 years ago, when the construction of the largest pumped-storage hydroelectric power plant in the Balkans - PAVEC “Chaira”, was highlighted.
