The parade in Beijing was not just a parade, but a complex of events that reflect a significant anniversary - 80 years since the end of World War II and the victory over fascism. Let our visit be considered precisely in the context of this historical event, as well as the meetings we held with representatives of the Chinese Communist Party. This is how Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Bulgarian Socialist Party Atanas Zafirov explained in the studio of "The Day Begins" the reason for his visit to China.
According to him, this is something common and not something that goes beyond the normal:
"We have a long 76-year history between the two parties and the invitation was purely party. I led a party delegation that also took part in this event, which was truly historic, grandiose, but it is not something that has not happened. Just 10 years ago, the People's Republic of China celebrated the 70th anniversary of the end of the war in the same brilliant and grandiose way. So it is not something that has happened and something that should surprise analysts, politicians, geopoliticians, etc."
In his words, the visit to China is a matter of historical relations and state policy.
"As relations between a country with which we maintain excellent economic and diplomatic relations and a country with which since 2019 we have raised the rank of our relations to the level of strategic partnership. I am a convinced supporter that Bulgaria should maintain such relations, especially with countries that have enormous economic potential and enormous interest."
The official talks of the delegation were entirely with leaders of the Chinese Communist Party at various levels.
Zafirov also said that he could not be bothered by relations with countries, including the Russian Federation, with which Bulgaria maintains diplomatic relations:
"All the countries that attended this event - Bulgaria has diplomatic relations with them. And for the meetings within the parade itself and the event itself and then at the reception, I was able to talk with the President of Kyrgyzstan, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, the Foreign Minister of Hungary, the Deputy Prime Minister of Egypt, the Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore - all countries with which we have excellent relations, with which we need to build bridges, he explained.
Atanas Zafirov also commented on the prepared fifth vote of no confidence in the "Zhelyazkov" cabinet, as in his words, the Ministry of Interior is doing well. He is satisfied with the work of Interior Minister Daniel Mitov and Deputy Minister Filip Popov. The problems in the sector cannot be solved in 6-7 months, he added.
