Small and medium-sized enterprises are the backbone of the Bulgarian economy and they will be among the biggest beneficiaries of the introduction of the euro. This was stated by the Minister of Economy and Industry, Petar Dilov, in Blagoevgrad during an Information Meeting, part of the National Information Campaign for the Introduction of the Euro in Bulgaria.
According to him, the common currency will eliminate unnecessary currency conversion costs, facilitate access to financing and provide more opportunities for growth and international partnerships. “The introduction of the euro will bring direct benefits to small and medium-sized enterprises, such as reduced transaction costs, faster and more secure trade with European partners, as well as better conditions for investment and innovation“, stressed Dilov.
He noted that with the introduction of the euro, SMEs will increase their competitiveness outside the country, which is a strategic step and will open up new opportunities for Bulgarian business. “The Ministry will continue to actively support business in the preparation process, by providing explanations and guidelines for a smooth transition to the new currency“, added the Minister.
During the meeting, Minister Dilov specified that the main responsibility of the department is to protect the interests of Bulgarian citizens. “That is why we are introducing dual price labeling – clearly and legibly, so that there is no doubt or misunderstanding. We strictly monitor the correct currency conversion and rounding in order to prevent artificial price increases. We are introducing constant monitoring of the prices of basic goods and services and will regularly inform the public about their changes“, he pointed out.
The Minister of Economy assured that all these measures are aimed at the most important thing - not to harm any consumer and to preserve the purchasing power of households, especially socially vulnerable groups. In addition, the state actively supports business by providing instructions, guidelines and explanations for the correct implementation of dual denomination and a smooth transition to the new currency.
“We monitor stability by monitoring 27 factors that could have an impact on producers' costs“, Dilov emphasized.
He also pointed out that joining the eurozone is a process that requires unity, consistency and cooperation between the state, business, institutions and civil society. “Our goal is clear – stability for the economy, transparency and fairness for consumers and guarantees that no one will be harmed. Only in this way can we welcome January 1, 2026 as a confident, stable and strong Bulgaria“, concluded the Minister of Economy and Industry.
