Deborah Mihaylova: I am afraid and desperate - 1

"I am afraid. Nothing has happened for two years and this makes me desperate, because no example is set for women who have suffered similar things". Deborah Mihaylova commented this to journalists in Plovdiv before the next court hearing against Georgi Georgiev, BTA reported.

The case in the District Court in the city started from the beginning and is being heard behind closed doors. Georgiev is accused of causing moderate bodily harm, coercion and threats to kill. The questioning of witnesses continues today.

Georgiev is free on bail of 10,000 leva, the district magistrates decided in August. The injured girl commented that he did not seek contact with her. "He is not free, but on bail. He is not innocent, but he paid to get out and the case is still ongoing", added Mihaylova.

The case of the attack on Debora Mihaylova dates back to the summer of 2023 and caused a wave of sympathy throughout the country. At that time, people took to marches and protests against domestic violence and in support of the girl. Georgi Georgiev was brought to trial on three charges. The first is that on June 26, 2023 in Stara Zagora, with particular cruelty, by punching her in the head and by inflicting 18 cuts on her body with a black mock knife, he caused Debora Mihaylova two-degree moderate bodily injury, which led to a health disorder that was temporarily life-threatening and disfigurement of parts of the body. On June 27, 2023, Georgi Georgiev was detained, but was later released by a decree of the District Court, after the court panel considered that, according to the evidence collected in the case, the crime qualified as inflicting "slight bodily harm". On July 31 of the same year, Georgiev was detained with a permanent measure of "detention in custody". The "Debora" case was transferred from Stara Zagora to Plovdiv, as all the judges there recused themselves.
