A new monthly record is reported by the housing market in Turkey. Over 150,000 housing units were sold throughout the country in September. This confirms the strong trend in the housing sector despite inflation and increased borrowing costs, analysts quoted by Daily Sabah said.

The 150,657 homes and houses sold in September this year are 6.9% more than the same month last year, the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced. This is the highest value recorded for the current year, after the previous record of 143,219 units sold in August.

Istanbul once again topped the list of provinces with the most sales (24,119), followed by the capital Ankara (13,417) and Izmir (8,544).

In the January-September period, home sales jumped by 19.2% compared to the same period last year, reaching 1.12 million.

Mortgage home sales increased by 34.4% in September year-on-year to 21,266 units.

In September, 47,117 houses were sold for the first time, representing a 31.3% share of all home sales. Secondary market home sales increased by 7.8% compared to the same month of the previous year, reaching 103,540 units. Sales of old houses had a 68.7% share of all residential property sales.

Home sales to foreigners decreased by 7.7% compared to September 2024 to 1,867 units. They held a 1.2% share of all sales during the month.

The provinces with the highest number of home sales to foreigners were Istanbul with 744, the southern provinces of Antalya with 557 and Mersin with 124. From January to September, sales to foreign citizens fell by 12.6% year-on-year to 14,944 units.
