A draft amendment to the Agricultural Land Ownership and Use Act was presented at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food (MAF) during a meeting of the Advisory Council on Land Relations, the ministry announced. The new draft aims to improve the regulatory framework related to the management, protection and use of agricultural land, as well as to make it easier for farmers in their activities.
The proposed changes are the result of a broad dialogue with stakeholders, said Minister of Agriculture and Food Georgi Tahov. He hopes that the adopted texts will help producers, while at the same time guaranteeing transparency and fairness in the management of agricultural land. “The draft includes all proposals submitted by the members of the Council“, the minister pointed out.
Among the main topics of the discussion were the procedure and conditions for conducting auctions for renting or leasing land from the State Land Fund. After a constructive dialogue, a unified position was reached on the proposed changes. The texts will be sent for final coordination, after which they will be published for public discussion, in accordance with legal requirements.
The topic of changes to the Agricultural Land Act was also the focus of a meeting between Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, Minister of Agriculture Georgi Tahov and representatives of the National Association of Grain Producers (NAG). The occasion for the meeting was the Declaration of the NAG of October 9, 2025, with which the sector insists on urgent dialogue and the implementation of short-term measures to stabilize agriculture.
During the conversation, other regulatory initiatives were also discussed - changes to the Lease Act, the Water Act, the Agricultural Property Protection Act, as well as the Industry Organizations Act. The creation of the Agrarian Chamber Law was also discussed, as well as future changes affecting cooperatives.
