Turkish authorities have banned construction on the site of a mansion in Istanbul on the Bosphorus. It is not officially known who it belongs to. Local media claim that the building may have been acquired by Russian businessman Roman Abramovich.

A mansion in the Üsküdar district in the Asian part of Istanbul, previously owned by the televangelist Adnan Oktar, who denies the theory of evolution and was sentenced to 8,658 years in prison, has not left the pages of newspapers and television screens in recent days. Trees have reportedly been cut down and illegal construction has begun on the site where it is located. Newspaper Hürriyet claims that the mansion was purchased for 26 million USD by Russian businessman Boris Borisenko in Abramovich's name. In 2023, Abramovich's representative already denied this information.

Istanbul City Hall announced that it had given permission only for repairs and not for the reconstruction of the building. Due to the detected violations, the territory was sealed on August 16, the authorities note. The Turkish Minister of Ecology and Urban Development Murat Kurum said that the construction work was stopped on August 22, the head of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic Yilmaz Tunç said that based on Article 184 of the local Penal Code (crimes against the environment), the prosecutor's office initiated a criminal case. “The investigation is being conducted in the most thorough manner”, he assured X.
