The appearance of Sofia with its narrow streets or even the lack of streets in the neighborhoods with intensive construction, the lack of new green spaces (editor's note: in the last 10 years, not a single property has been alienated for landscaping), must inevitably change. However, this is a slow and very complex process. According to the mayor of Sofia, Vasil Terziev, now is “a good time for all of us to start eliminating the problems one by one, so that in 10-20 years we can see a different Sofia“.
The first step, however, is a new General Development Plan for Sofia. A proposal for such a plan will be available by the end of the current year, promised the acting chief architect of Sofia, arch. Bogdana Panayotova. This plan is the skeleton of the city. It specifies where, what, and at what height construction can be done, as well as where infrastructure such as boulevards and the metro should be built.
