The customs officers at the "Kapitan Andreevo" border checkpoint detained nearly 740 kilograms of marijuana. The quantity is a record, seized at the checkpoint for the last 15 years. It is estimated at over 11.8 million leva, reported Haskovo District Prosecutor Ivan Stoyanov, quoted by BNT.
The truck arrived at the checkpoint on September 11, traveling from Germany to Turkey, transporting a production machine. The truck was diverted for a thorough inspection by the "Combating Trafficking" section of the checkpoint. During the physical inspection, the drugs were found, distributed in 656 packages, arranged in cardboard boxes and textile bags.
A foreigner was detained for 72 hours, a request for detention is pending.
The truck had a company seal, not a customs seal, which made an impression. In addition, the size of the truck is non-standard, so that the X-ray inspection is difficult, explained Ivan Paskov, deputy director of TD "Customs" Burgas.
This is another case at the checkpoint and the largest amount of marijuana seized in the country since the beginning of the year.
"The drug is intended for Turkey, and its price is estimated at over 30 million euros", said Stefan Bakalov, head of the "Fight against Drug Trafficking" department.
Marijuana predominates in drug trafficking to Turkey, he added.
