A minor student from the Sports School "Stefan Karadzha" in Haskovo was detained after shooting with a gas pistol on the territory of the educational institution, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Haskovo announced, reports BTA.
The inspection showed that the shot was fired through the window in the air during recess.
A report about the incident was filed in the early afternoon to the 112 telephone number. The pistol was seized. The investigation is currently underway under the supervision of the Haskovo District Prosecutor's Office.
The school principal Silvia Tencheva told BTA that she learned about the shooting after the third period today from a ninth-grader. “The student came and told me that the student in question, whom she named, was carrying a gun. I took him to the security guards, who searched him and found the weapon at the bottom of his backpack”, she said. The principal said that it was she who reported the incident to the emergency number. Witnesses were questioned and the weapon was taken away by the police with a report.
Silvia Tencheva emphasized that the school has never had a practice of searching students upon entry. She has already spoken to the mother of the boy who practices football at the sports school. The woman did not answer whether she knew about the origin of the weapon and whether her son had any documents for it. The principal said that the student was from a large family, for which only the mother was taking care. As a striking point, however, she pointed out that in the end the mother came to the school to ask for her son's gun.
A meeting of the pedagogical council is coming up at the sports school, at which the case will be considered and a decision will be made whether the student will be expelled. The principal has also filed a report with the Regional Department of Education in Haskovo.
