The court in Varna took a measure of "detention in custody" for the prosecutor's son Nikolay Madzharov, 31, caught with 50 kg of marijuana in the Burgas village of Draka.
On September 18, the court in Varna considered the prosecutor's request to impose the most severe measure of detention on Nikolay Madzharov. He is the son of the prosecutor from the Burgas Appellate Prosecutor's Office Valentina Madzharova.
The man is accused of possessing significant quantities of narcotics. During the search, 45,625.06 g of green mass and 7,655.10 g of herbaceous mass were seized. The exact quantities will be specified after the appointed expertise, but according to the prosecutor's office they are “substantial“.
According to the defense, Madzharov made a full confession at the time of his arrest. “From the very beginning, he cooperated with the Ministry of Internal Affairs and showed everything related to his criminal activity“, said his lawyer Julian Georgiev.
Madzharov has a criminal record - he was arrested in 2013, in 2015 he resisted a police officer, and in 2018 he participated in a robbery. His driver's license was also revoked for refusing a drug test, but he continued to drive despite this.
While the prosecution is demanding permanent arrest, the defense is requesting a lighter measure - house arrest, bail or recognizance.
Madzharov himself stated:“I regret the act I committed. I have fully cooperated with the law enforcement agencies. I ask the court not to honor the request for the most severe measure.“
