The customs officers at the Kapitan Andreevo Customs Post discovered nearly 2,200,000 pieces of smuggled cigarettes during an inspection of a truck entering the country from Turkey.
On 21.09.2025 at 02:36 a.m., a truck with Turkish registration arrived at the post. The driver - a Turkish citizen - presented documents for the transported goods - drainage glue for plants, from Kazakhstan via Turkey to Bulgaria. The vehicle was selected for a thorough customs inspection.
During the subsequent physical control, in the middle part, in 72 of the transported paper bags with declared goods, it was found that boxes of cigarettes were hidden. The total quantity of cigarettes found was 2,199,440 pieces (109,972) boxes, all with foreign excise stamps, worth 824,790 leva (421,708.43 euros).
The tobacco products and the truck were seized.
A pre-trial investigation was initiated into the case by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo.
