The Sofia City Court remanded in custody the two officers of the executive agency "Automobile Administration", who demanded and received bribes from truck drivers transporting equipment for Robbie Williams' concert in Sofia, bTV reported.
According to the court, there is a risk that Georgi Georgiev and Boris Borisov will commit a new crime.
In the courtroom, one of the detained officers explained that the three drivers had committed several violations, and the traffic police officers had told them that "this time they would make a compromise and let them go".
According to the officers of the "Automobile Administration" the drivers wanted to give them a bribe, but they refused, and then apparently in their anger they reported a bribe request, which was not true.
The two traffic police inspectors were detained for 72 hours, and the prosecutor's office requested a permanent detention order for the two men.
Against this background, an investigation is already underway in the “Automobile Administration“ to see if there are other cases of corruption. Because of the scandal, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov requested the creation of a new road control unit.
