This became clear from the extraordinary briefing of the director of the Burgas Regional Police Department, Senior Commissioner Lachezar Momchev, the deputy director of the Burgas Regional Police Department, Commissioner Radi Penev, the head of the "Security Police" and Traffic Police at the Burgas Regional Directorate of Internal Affairs Commissioner Marin Dimitrov about the chase in which six men from Afghanistan died last night, specified "Flagman".
The Director of the Burgas Regional Directorate of Internal Affairs Senior Commissioner Lachezar Momchev said that at 9:20 p.m. last night, the border police detachment from Tsarevo identified the passenger car that fits the profile of one transporting illegal migrants. An attempt was made to stop it with a sound and light signal, but the driver refused to obey.
After that, a procedure was initiated with the other services of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the blocking measures. The car with the migrants was moving very risky and immediately before stopping, it pushed the passenger car moving in front of it - belonging to a Burgas family. This also threatens the security of police officers, added Senior Commissioner Momchev.
"A decision was made to protect innocent people. Their lives would have been endangered if we had taken action," emphasized the director of the "Border Police".
Thus, the driver of the Skoda continued to drive along "Todor Aleksandrov" Blvd. and entered the densely populated areas of Burgas, where a police squad used a lane for forced stopping. The Romanian citizen tried to avoid it, but due to the high speed and the rain, he lost control of the car and this is how the accident occurred.
"The migrants are from Afghanistan. Most of the traffickers have recently been foreigners. The detainee is a young man. Procedural and investigative actions are underway," specified the head of the "Security Police" and Traffic Police at the Burgas Regional Directorate of Internal Affairs Commissioner Marin Dimitrov.
"The injured migrants are in hospital, in good health. Their final destination was Western Europe. They were loaded into the area of responsibility of the GPU-Tsarevo, and the Skoda was spotted near Primorsko. The deceased men died as a result of the strong impact of the car - first into the billboard, then flying a long distance and falling on the shore of the lake," added Senior Commissioner Momchev.
"Since 2022, after the serious incident, a procedure for interaction with the "Border Police" was established. The duty units are deployed in certain places to counteract and prevent such drivers from being dangerous to other citizens by entering populated areas. The procedure was fully implemented, all teams of ODMRV-Burgas were deployed.
Five teams were on standby on Blvd. “Todor Aleksandrov” to the Burgas exit. They were ready to react with emergency braking lanes. The right place was chosen to apply this procedure in order to prevent the car from continuing its movement and entering the city.
