Svetla Daskalova from the Varna District Court was selected as the judge-rapporteur in the case of detained mayor Blagomir Kotsev. The selection took place through the random allocation system.

Two jurors were also selected, BNT reported.

By law, Judge Svetla Daskalova will have to schedule the case within two months.

Applications for consideration of the measures for the detention of Blagomir Kotsev have been filed with the Sofia City Court. Judge Daskalova will also have to rule on them, as there is no legal deadline. They should be considered within a reasonable time frame, according to lawyers.

Two days ago, the Sofia City Court suspended proceedings in one of the largest criminal corruption cases in 2025 and sent it to the Supreme Court of Cassation, which must decide which court in the country is competent to consider it.

This happened just days after the prosecution filed the indictment for bribery and coercion against Blagomir Kotsev and four other defendants - the two municipal councilors Yordan Kateliev and Nikolay Stefanov, Kotsev's PR expert and businessman Ivaylo Marinov are accused of criminal conspiracy.

The prosecution has identified 7 different cases for which it has established that crimes have been committed. In one of them, the state prosecution states that Kotsev requested a total of nearly 370,000 leva in order to exert influence.

Blagomir Kotsev is currently in prison, where he was transferred after more than 3 months in the custody of the National Investigation Department.
