At around 7:15 p.m. last night, a person entered the store with a Kalashnikov assault rifle and threatened the saleswoman with the words: I will kill you, this is a robbery, give me the money. The saleswoman refused, to which the man threatened to detonate a grenade. Then the woman handed over the money and this person left the store in a car driven by another person, and the two withdrew from the scene.
This was stated at a briefing by the deputy city prosecutor of Sofia, Georgi Moisev, who gave details about last night's armed robbery in Krasno Selo.
"The two people have been detained for up to 72 hours. They turn out to be father and son. On January 1, a request for a measure of "detention in custody" will be submitted, so that they can be interested in it on New Year's Day. Whether the weapons and grenades are real will be further clarified by the appointed experts. The seized items closely resemble a Kalashnikov assault rifle and a hand grenade," he added.
"One of the detainees was identified as a relative, who turned out to be at his home address, and it took us some time to get inside. The second, who is the son, was detained in another neighborhood - on "Hristo Botev" Blvd. The car in which the two fled was seized because it is part of the pre-trial proceedings. The cameras from the store were also seized for the purpose of the pre-trial proceedings. The amount seized is about 2,200 leva. The father has no criminal record. The son has multiple criminal records. The crime itself was committed in conditions of dangerous recidivism. The father is 65 years old, and the son is 45 years old", added Chief Inspector Emil Emilov - Head of the "Robbery" Sector of the State Department of Internal Affairs.
"In 2000, the son was convicted of murder - he served 15 years. After that, he was convicted twice more with effective sentences. He actually left prison about half a year ago. Both of them do not give any explanations. At the moment, there is no third person detained", revealed Prosecutor Moisev.
"Patrols in Sofia have been increased during the holidays by order of the Director of the State Department of Internal Affairs, which also contributed to the rapid reaction. "I urge people not to carry large sums of money on themselves during the holidays, and that stores comply with the law on private security activities and not to collect a lot of money in one place," Chief Inspector Emilov urged.
