Officers of the Directorate of the Ministry of Health and Social Development detained a doctor for receiving a bribe in order to issue expert decisions on reduced working capacity.
As the chairman of the TELC board in a hospital in the city of Pazardzhik, he accepted gifts that were not due to him for a long time.
During the investigation, which lasted several months, it was established that for the period from September to November 2025, in his capacity as an official holding a responsible position, he accepted 4 bribes in a total amount of 8,500 leva (4,345 euro).
In three of the cases for issuing the relevant expert decisions, he was handed 2500 leva, and in one of the cases - 1000 leva.
The medical professional's patients were three men and a woman aged between 48 and 66.
A specialized police operation was conducted on January 20, 2026, under an initiated pre-trial proceeding under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Pazardzhik.
During the investigation in the city of Pazardzhik and the city of Velingrad, numerous pieces of material evidence, mobile phones and documents relevant to the investigation were seized.
The detained official is charged with committing a crime under Art. 302, item 1 letter "A" in conjunction with Art. 301 para.1 in conjunction with art. 26 para.1 of the Criminal Code. He was granted a "guarantee" in the amount of 5,000 euros.
20 witnesses have been questioned in the case so far.
