One of those accused of the Ihtiman carjacking is the son of a Supreme Court judge, bTV learned from its sources.
During the crime, he and his accomplice spoke in English to deceive the victims that they were foreigners. Then they ran to their car, and on the way they threw the bags of money and weapons.
January 16 – The day of the robbery, 23-year-old Hristo Yanashkov and Yavor Prodanov parked their car about 4 kilometers from the robbery site and approached the crime scene on foot, dressed as construction workers.
About 2 hours before the crime, the two perpetrators came and hid in an abandoned building, from where they observed what was happening at the train station, which was on the opposite side of the street. When they saw the collection truck coming and stopping, they went to it.
At that moment, one of the security guards in the collection truck went to the station cash register to collect the money.
“The other security guard in the truck saw one of the two workers rummaging in his bag and taking out a long gun and realized that something was going to happen“, explains the head of the Inspector Filip Blagoev, head of the Ihtiman district police department.
One of the attackers points a gun at the security guard's head, takes the train from the station.
The perpetrators flee. Minutes later, the uniformed officers are at the scene of the armed robbery. They have a short conversation with one of the victims.
The uniformed officers cordon off the area. Stefan Zashev, junior police inspector Ihtiman, manages to detain one of the perpetrators. The other does not obey the orders - he crosses a river, but is detained on the other side.
At the time of detention, the attackers had neither weapons nor money. They were found a little later, about 800 meters from the place of arrest.
