A hearing has been scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Court of Appeals - Veliko Tarnovo, at which the measure protested by the Pleven District Prosecutor's Office against the driver accused of the death of the 58-year-old anesthesiologist and former mayor of Cherven Bryag Dr. Tsvetan Kostadinov, caused by negligence in a road accident near the village of Telish, will be considered.
The Pleven District Court set a bail of 8,000 euros. Before the hearing at 9:30 a.m., citizens will gather in protest in front of the Veliko Tarnovo Court demanding justice.
On January 30, 2026, a panel of the Pleven District Court considered the request of the Pleven District Prosecutor's Office to take the most severe preventive measure "detention in custody" against Dimitar Dimitrov, the driver of the heavy truck involved in the accident that killed the former mayor of Cherven Bryag - anesthesiologist Dr. Tsvetan Kostadinov.
The court set a bail of 8,000 euros, after which Deputy District Prosecutor Plamen Petkov said:
"The only possible adequate measure is "detention in custody".
Today there will be another civil protest in front of the court in Tarnovo. Among the protesters is the father of 12-year-old Siyana, who also died near Telish in a Nikolay Popov accident.
"Public presence is necessary. The court allowed itself with a three-page decision, referring to the practice of the Supreme Court of Cassation, to release this driver. For me, he is dangerous and I would like to inform all of your listeners that in connection with organizing a protest, I am receiving threats from colleagues from the company of the driver Dimitrov from Sandanski, for which I will file a report with the relevant prosecutor's office, Popov said.
