Customs officers seized 4.593 kg of smuggled gold jewelry worth a total of 750,904 leva, hidden on the bodies of two drivers of a minibus leaving the country.
The vehicle, which arrived at the checkpoint on 12.05.2025 at around 01:40, was carrying the driver, a second driver and 7 more passengers from Ukraine via Bulgaria to Turkey. In the customs control area, they all stated that they were not carrying goods to declare. The minibus was selected for a thorough customs inspection.
During the control actions during the personal examination of the driver and the second driver - Ukrainian citizens, it was found that on their bodies, in the abdomen, under the belt of their jeans, one package containing yellow metal items was hidden. In one of the packages, which was carried by the second driver, 13 bars of 24-carat gold and jewelry with a total weight of 3680.80 grams worth 650,423 leva were found, according to the expert assessment. In the other package, hidden by the driver of the minibus, a total of 912.20 grams of gold items worth 100,481 leva were found.
A pre-trial investigation has been initiated into the case by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo.
