A suspected gang of pickpockets was arrested this morning in the German city of Duisburg, the German newspaper "Bild" reported, citing the police.
It reported that the women aged 37 to 62, all of them with Bulgarian citizenship, have been operating in the German Ruhr region since December 2024. They targeted elderly people traveling on public transport, the German police specified, quoted by BTA.
The gang, which committed over 30 thefts, was arrested after a thorough investigation.
The police reported that they searched a home in Duisburg, which served as the group's hideout, and found evidence and a large sum of money in it. The arrest and search warrants were obtained in advance by the prosecutor's office at the Duisburg district court.
The investigation is ongoing and the Oberhausen police thank the Bulgarian authorities for their cooperation.
