A panel of the Smolyan District Court sentenced 41-year-old Stefan Shupev from Devin to 15 years in prison for the fratricide committed in January 2024.
The verdict was handed down after a shortened trial, BNR reported, quoted by dariknews.bg.
The victim - the 43-year-old brother of the accused Rusko Shupev - was found with multiple traumatic injuries, and his body was set on fire with used oil. The tragedy took place in an apartment on "Rozhen" Street in the "Vratlek" district. in Devin.
The investigation established that the crime was committed in a particularly torturous manner and with particular cruelty, in conditions of domestic violence. According to the forensic medical examination, the victim's body was hit with fists, a glass bottle, a wooden handle and a rolling pin. The victim died as a result of a massive pulmonary fat embolism and organ failure caused by the numerous fractures.
The court found Shupev guilty and sentenced him to 15 years of imprisonment with an initial strict regime. In addition, he must pay the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Smolyan the costs incurred in the pre-trial proceedings - 10,367.97 leva.
The verdict is subject to appeal before the Court of Appeal in Plovdiv.
