A 54-year-old woman was sentenced to prison for stealing a large sum of money from a 79-year-old man based on an indictment filed by the prosecutor's office.
She was held criminally liable for the fact that on December 5, 2024 from a house in Sofia, the accused stole 50,000 euros, 31,000 leva and a mobile phone, all worth a total of 128,815.50 leva from a pensioner, the prosecution announced.
The woman had gone to the elderly man's house after posting an ad that he needed someone to take care of him, as he was disabled.
The accused took advantage of the fact that he had left his money unattended and stole it. The theft was on a large scale and the act was committed in conditions of dangerous recidivism, as she was convicted of a serious intentional crime of deprivation of liberty effectively.
The investigation was completed in 5 months, during which expert reports were made and witnesses were questioned, pointing to her as the author of the act.
A panel of the Sofia District Court found the woman guilty of the charges brought against her and imposed a sentence of “deprivation of liberty“ for a period of 5 years, which she must effectively serve under a strict regime.
The verdict is subject to appeal before the Sofia City Court.
