The Plovdiv District Court confirmed a ruling by the District Court - Plovdiv, by which the measure of non-detention of the defendant in the "Debora" case Georgi Georgiev was changed from "detention in custody" to "cash bail".

The higher court even reduced the bail amount from 25,000 leva to 10,000 leva. The court panel accepts that the defendant has currently been behind bars for almost 2 years and 2 months, which has significantly reduced the risk of him committing other crimes, the Bulgarian National Radio reported.

In its reasons for easing the measure, the court points out that the existence of a reasonable suspicion of complicity in the crimes of which Georgi Georgiev is accused is no longer sufficient to justify continued detention.

In this regard, the case law of the European Court of Human Rights is also relevant, which indicates that in these cases detention should be based on additional and sufficient grounds. The ruling of the Plovdiv District Court is final.
