Acting Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria Borislav Sarafov requested from the Burgas Prosecutor's Office the pre-trial proceedings for the ATV traffic accident, in which five pedestrians were injured on August 14, 2025 in the Sunny Beach resort, in view of his powers to assign the investigation to the National Investigation Service (NIS).
The facts and circumstances to be established in the case require the investigation to be carried out by an investigator with a high degree of qualification and experience in the work in view of the legal complexity of the case. An analysis of a significant volume of evidentiary material is pending, as well as various expert examinations in order to clarify the objective truth and the responsibility of the driver.
The accused in the pre-trial proceedings is N.B. He was held criminally liable for causing moderate bodily harm to more than one person - five pedestrians, as a result of a traffic accident.
On 18.08.2025, the prosecutor's office filed a protest against the court's ruling, by which the accused N.B. was placed under house arrest. The protest sets out reasons why the measure should be changed to the most severe - "custody". The session of the Burgas District Court is scheduled for consideration on 22.08.2025.
