The man who crashed a van into a playground had an argument with a woman before the chase with the police. He threatened her life and even poured liquid on her and tried to set her on fire. This was stated at a briefing by the head of the 1st Regional Directorate of the State Security Service, Commissioner Ivo Zahariev.
According to him, after receiving the signal, a police team was sent to the scene to identify the participants in the conflict. The man attempted to escape from the law enforcement agencies, hitting three parked cars during the escape, losing control of the vehicle and crashing into a playground. Fortunately, there were no children on the playground, but witnesses confirmed the factual situation.
During the arrest, the police determined that the driver was intoxicated – his blood alcohol level was 2.7 per mille. The offender was charged with drunk driving, disobeying law enforcement and causing a traffic accident. His driving license and license plates were revoked, and the car was seized in accordance with the law.
Before the police intervened, the man threatened the woman - an acquaintance of his - and managed to pour a liquid over her, the composition of which is being clarified, attempting to set her on fire.
The perpetrator has been convicted multiple times, including several times for driving a car after drinking alcohol.
According to the spokesman for the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office, Nikolay Nikolaev, he faces 1 to 5 years in prison for drunk driving, and 1 to 6 years for threatening the woman's life.
