An 82-year-old man from the Ugarchin village of Lesidren, Lovech region, has been detained for cruelty to a dog, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Lovech announced.
The case was established on Thursday at noon. The actions of the employees of the Ugarchin Regional Directorate are a result of distributed footage showing the elderly man being cruel to his dog and causing it serious injury, BTA correspondent in Lovech Svetlomira Anastasova reported.
Police officers were immediately sent to the scene and conducted an inspection. The dog is currently alive and is being provided with veterinary care, the authorities specify.
A pre-trial investigation has been initiated into the case. The penalty provided is imprisonment from one to five years and a fine from 1,000 to 5,000 leva.
