Police officers detained two drivers who had used drugs after a scandal over the loss of right of way on “Simeon the Great” Blvd. in Shumen, the press center of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs announced.
The scandal on the Shumen boulevard between two drivers occurred yesterday at around 3:15 p.m., after which a 59-year-old man, who was driving a “Ford“, struck with his hand the side mirror of a “Toyota“ car, behind the wheel of which was a 48-year-old driver.
The two were tested with a technical device for drug use, with the older man found to have opiates, and the younger man - amphetamine. Blood samples were also taken for chemical analysis.
The men were detained for up to 24 hours. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated. The case is ongoing.
Since the beginning of the year, 156 unlicensed drivers have been identified in the Shumen region, 120 drivers who drove after drinking alcohol, and 34 who drove after using drugs. In the past week alone, 2,052 violations have been identified on the roads in the region, announced on August 14 the director of the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Shumen, Senior Commissioner Georgi Gendov.
