Police in Botevgrad deny having an "umbrella" over drug distribution - 1

The police reject the allegations of an "umbrella" over drug distribution and therefore stated that there are numerous cases and an increased presence of the gendarmerie, bTV pointed out.

There was tension again in Botevgrad late last night due to the death of a young man. Relatives claim that dealers sold him drugs with fentanyl.

Residents of the city expressed doubts that the institutions are not acting decisively enough against drug distribution and that an "umbrella" is being placed over the drug trade.

The district administration in Botevgrad indicates that there are a number of actions against this type of crime.

„Since the beginning of the year, 11 pre-trial proceedings have been initiated under Art. 354 for drug distribution and possession. 34 people from the municipality's contingent and other passers-by were detained,“ Georgi Kalaidzhiev, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Interior's Office - Sofia Region, told bTV.

According to them, there are also cases against the specific person whose name is associated with the case: one pre-trial proceeding from 2023, which is already in the court phase, a second proceeding from March this year, during which searches were conducted in his home.

Since February, there has been a constant presence of gendarmerie in the area, with daily specialized operations aimed at the distribution of narcotics.

High results have been achieved. We are taking all operational and investigative actions to collect evidence and prove the criminal activity, the Ministry of Interior assured.

When asked whether the person who people claim is “at large” is in Bulgaria, the police explained: “I currently think he is in the country, but this data is part of the operational actions and I cannot provide more details.“

According to local residents, however, the man has left Bulgaria.
