A painting by Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh was sold at Sotheby's in New York for $62.7 million, ANP reported.
According to the agency, the painting in question is the 1887 painting “ Piles of Parisian novels and roses in a glass“ (Piles de romans parisiens et roses dans un verre).
The agency notes that the buyer was art history expert Patty Wong.
The final price exceeded the preliminary estimate by approximately 35%.
“ Piles of Parisian novels and roses in a glass“ was created by van Gogh in November-December 1887 in Paris. The work dates from the period when the artist lived with his brother Theo and was strongly influenced by French art.
The painting depicts stacks of books on a table and a glass full of roses.
The authenticity of the work has been confirmed by experts at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
