A woman from Scotland is suing the streaming service Netflix and is asking for monetary damages of 170 million dollars from the company for defamation in the popular series “Baby Reindeer”, writes Variety.
According to Fiona Harvey, she is the prototype of the stalker Martha from the series. The woman accused Netflix of defamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence and violation of privacy rights.
„We intend to vigorously defend this matter and protect Richard Gad's right to tell his story,” Netflix said in a statement.
“Baby Reindeer” is a British television series released on Netflix on April 11, 2024. Less than a week after its release, it became a hit, and within a month had more than 2.6 million viewers. The plot is based on the story of failed comedian Donnie Dunn (Richard Gadd), who falls victim to a stalker named Martha (Jessica Gunning).
