Thailand's Queen Mother Sirikit has died at the age of 93, the BBC reported, quoted by BTA, citing the Thai royal court.
The queen died peacefully at 9:21 p.m. local time (2:21 p.m. GMT).
In recent years, Sirikit had limited her public appearances due to her deteriorating health.
Her husband King Bhumibol Adulyadej died in 2016 after spending 70 years on the throne and becoming Thailand's longest-reigning monarch. Sirikit was by his side for most of that time, winning the hearts of her compatriots with her numerous charitable initiatives, Reuters notes.
Sirikit is revered as a mother figure to the Thai nation, and her birthday is celebrated as Mother's Day in Thailand.
