For the first time in recent history, the celebration began outside Karlovo - in the rose gardens above Klisura. Under the sounds of bagpipes, the newly elected Queen of the Rose welcomed the guests and together with all the participants in the competition, they reproduced the ritual of the rose garden.
The Rose Festival continued with processions through the streets to the central square of Karlovo. There, according to tradition, the mayor of the municipality presented the Rose Queen with a 24-karat gold rose, a symbol of permanence, sustainability and beauty, and that traditions are respected and respected.
"It is important because in recent decades it has become one of the emblems of Karlovo and of Bulgaria, we have been invited to Japan at Expo 2024 and precisely to show our traditions and customs," said Dr. Emil Kabaivanov - mayor of Karlovo.
This year, a record number of tourists from four continents came to Karlovo.
"We are from Singapore, for the first time. We are here to enjoy the festival and the dancing. We are very happy, it's exciting. We really like the rose products - rose oil and rose water," said those present at the celebration.
