Special prosecutors in the case of actor Alec Baldwin say that he shot cameraman Galina Hutchins while playing with a firearm, according to their report published on the general website of the courts of the US state of New Mexico, RIA Novosti reported.
In October 2021, Baldwin, during a rehearsal on the set of the western film Rust, fired a gun that turned out to be loaded not with blanks, but with live cartridges. As a result, Ukrainian-born Hutchins was killed and director Joel Souza was seriously injured. The actor claims that he did not pull the trigger of the gun, and the shot occurred spontaneously.
„Between October 12, 2021 and October 21, 2021, the defendant participated in various scenes in which he... played with a revolver while being photographed while learning to shoot a firearm... Minutes ago to call 911 about shots fired at ... Ms. Hutchins, Mr. Baldwin was photographed ... swinging his weapon”, the document said.
According to special prosecutors, Baldwin was careless during firearms training, repeatedly pointed a revolver at team members, fired a blank round at one of them and exhibited “erratic and aggressive behavior” on set.
Baldwin was initially charged with manslaughter in the cameraman's death, but prosecutors later dropped the charges but have not ruled out refiling them. In January, it became known that the actor was accused again. According to Variety, if convicted, he faces up to 18 months in prison.
