Rum is a distilled alcohol that is made from sugar cane and more precisely from molasses – a thick syrup released during the production of sugar. You may also find bottles to which various spices have been added.

The first bottle of rum was produced in the Caribbean after the discovery that molasses was fermented. Alcohol was so popular with the new settlers that it was a means of bribery and payment.

Somewhere in 1672, the drink acquired the name by which it is still known today – rum. It is believed that this name comes from the word RUMBULLION, which in the English country slang of the time meant uproar or noise. Another name for the drink from this period is Kill Devil.

Settlers in the Caribbean islands drank rum to cure various diseases typical of the tropical climate, and sugar plantation owners sold rum at great discounts to warships in order to keep them longer as a precaution against pirates.

Through the British navy, rum gradually spread throughout the world, and in some areas of the world it also became a method of trade.

To commemorate the creation of this drink, once called the devil, you can pour yourself a glass of rum, mix a mojito or a Cuba Libre, or make a tempting dessert with the aroma of this alcohol.
