A 63-year-old woman died in her home on the Indonesian island of Sumatra after being attacked by a herd of wild elephants, DPA reported, quoted by NOVA.

The tragedy took place at night in a village in Lampung province, near the "Bukit Barisan Selatan" national park, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and known for its rich biodiversity, the Indonesian news agency ANTARA reported.

Footage on social media shows the woman's house destroyed after the elephants invaded the village from the surrounding protected forest.

The "Bukit Barisan Selatan" national park is one of the largest rainforests in Indonesia and is home to various endangered species, including Sumatran elephants.
