A famous belly dancer in Egypt has been sentenced to prison for insulting public morals, the Daily Telegraph reported.
30-year-old dancer Sohila Tarek Hassan Hagag was detained at Cairo airport. The reason for this was footage of a dance she posted on the social network. The authorities considered the video too sexual.
According to the investigation, the dancer deliberately appeared in public in indecent clothing. Her goal, according to the prosecutor's office, was to incite vice. For this purpose, she used “techniques of seduction and provocative dances“.
A large sum of money was found during Hagag's arrest, which investigators have determined to be proceeds from activities promoting debauchery.
Hagag is expected to spend at least two weeks behind bars.
Hagag was born in Egypt, but has lived in Italy for a long time and holds Italian citizenship. She has more than two million followers on social media.
