The eruption of the Krasheninnikov volcano has begun on the Kamchatka Peninsula, the regional volcanic eruption response team reported.

„The explosive eruption of the Krasheninnikov volcano began at 19:50 with the ejection of ash to a height of up to 3-4 km above sea level. This is the first eruption of this volcano in the history of observations,“ the message says

According to the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Emergency Situations for the Kamchatka Territory, ash was ejected at an altitude of up to 6 km. An orange code for aviation danger has been declared in the area of the volcano.

„The ash cloud spread east from the volcano towards the Pacific Ocean. There are no settlements in its path. No ash falls in settlements have been recorded. There are no registered tourist groups in the region of the volcano, the department specified.

The volcano belongs to the Eastern Volcanic Belt, located 13 km south of Lake Kronotskoye and 200 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. A complex volcanic structure of fused cones is located in a caldera with a diameter of up to 9 km. In the central caldera with a diameter of 2 km there are two cones nested one inside the other, the height of the smaller one is 150 m, the diameter of the crater is 60 m.
