Russian monks have put on sale yogurt made from a starter culture that has been stored for 80 years in a sunken ship in Lake Ladoga.
The unique product can be purchased from the farm of the Valaam Monastery, writes „Rossiyskaya Gazeta“.
According to the newspaper, the milk was found on the ship „Valamon Luostari“, which sank in 1940. Divers managed to get it out of there. It turned out that the product was perfectly preserved - the conditions at the bottom of the lake proved to be an excellent preservative.
The positive preserving factors were darkness, lack of air and the high fat content of the product - 5 percent.
