A Catholic priest in the United States has been fired for arranging a meeting with an escort in a church, The Independent reports.
47-year-old Clemente Olvera Guerrero was arrested on the night of Monday, August 4, in the courtyard of the church “St. Anne“ in Clayton, North Carolina, where he served. Police found a 20-year-old man involved in prostitution at the scene. He claims that the priest himself invited him through an app.
“They were caught in the act of having sex“, the Johnston County Sheriff's Department reported. The priest is charged with sexual exploitation, which is a felony in the state. The diocese immediately removed Olvera Guerrero from office, although it stressed that he “has the right to the presumption of innocence“.
