An elderly farmer has been attacked by a leopard in India, reports the Times of India.

The tragic incident took place in the village of Palaskheda, Maharashtra. 65-year-old paralyzed Subash Kakde was sleeping in a new house built under a government program. The doors to the building had not yet been installed. At night, the beast entered the house, attacked Kakde and tore him to pieces. The farmer's son found the body in a pool of blood in the morning and paramedics declared him dead before taking his body to the hospital.

Forest rangers have taken biological samples for analysis to confirm the leopard's involvement in the bloody drama.

“The preliminary autopsy indicates a wild animal attack, but we will draw final conclusions after the examination“, said assistant inspector Sandeep Rajput. The incident has caused panic among locals, who complain of frequent occurrences of predators near the village.

The man, who could not fight off the leopard, leaves behind a widow, three children and a grandson. Authorities have promised the family compensation after the investigation is completed.
