Max Verstappen with "Red Bull" won qualifying for the Azerbaijan Formula 1 Grand Prix, after recording the fastest lap of 1:41.117 minutes on the streets of Baku, BTA reports.
Carlos Sainz Jr. with "Williams" will start second, remaining 0.478 behind the Dutchman, and Liam with "Racing Bulls" will be third on the starting grid, recording the best achievement of his career.
Qualifying ended about an hour later than planned due to several crashes, rain and six red flags. The leader in the Formula 1 drivers' standings, Oscar Piastre with "McLaren" crashed in the final phase of qualifying. Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who was fighting for a fifth consecutive pole position in Baku, also hit the wall in the fight for a place in the top 10.
McLaren's Lando Norris failed to take full advantage of Piastre's mistake and finished seventh, two places ahead of his teammate.
McLaren is likely to win the constructors' title with seven rounds to go after Sunday's race.
In the drivers' standings, Piastre leads with 324 points, ahead of Norris on 293 and Verstappen on 230.
