Manchester United achieved an important 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the derby of the fifth round of the Premier League. Bruno Fernandes (14) and Casemiro (37) gave the hosts an advantage, and Trevo Chalobah (80) returned the intrigue, but the guests' efforts were not enough to equalize.
The match started violently - in the 5th minute, the goalkeeper of the “Blues” Robert Sanchez was sent off for a foul outside the penalty area. This allowed United to impose control and reach two quick goals. At the end of the first half, however, Casemiro received a second yellow card and left his team also with a man less.
In the second half, Chelsea played more offensively and in the closing minutes managed to pull one back through Chalobah. The “Blues“ pressed hard, but United's solid defence and good saves from the goalkeeper kept the home side in the game.
The win was a second successive home triumph for Ruben Amorim's side, providing some respite after a busy few weeks. For Chelsea, however, the defeat was their second in as many days, following their defeat by Bayern in the Champions League.
