Max Verstappen wins qualifying for the United States Grand Prix - 1

Champion Max Verstappen won qualifying for the United States Formula 1 Grand Prix after setting the fastest lap in 1:32.510 minutes on the 5.513-kilometer track in Austin, Texas. He beat Lando Norris by 0.291 seconds, while Charles Leclerc completed the top three, BTA reported.

"I did well, and the car behaved perfectly at every moment of qualifying. Today was very warm and there was a strong wind, and at the end I didn't have the opportunity to do another final lap. Luckily, I didn't need it,", said the Red Bull driver after qualifying.

The leader in the drivers' standings, Oscar Piastre, was only sixth. The Australian McLaren driver has 336 points, 22 more than his teammate Norris, while Verstappen has 281 ahead of Sunday's race, which starts at 10pm BST tonight.

Earlier in the day, Verstappen won the sprint race at the United States Grand Prix for the third year in a row after Piastre and Norris collided at the start and retired.
