Yasen Petrov on the national team: There is light at the end of the tunnel, but we have to look hard - 1

Former national coach Yasen Petrov is adamant that without unity in Bulgarian football, results will be difficult to achieve.

The coach in the period 2021-2022 made an analysis for BNT of the last 4 years - from the moment he took over the team until today.

"4 years ago, I started the previous world qualifiers with the desire to rejuvenate the team. We had a tough group with home games in front of empty stands. Then there was a division in the football community with a lot of pressure on everyone. We put all our energy into it. Then I took responsibility after one match with Georgia. Then a foreigner took over, who said he would leave us a team that would reap success. He left us obligations to FIFA. Then came Iliyan Iliev, with whom we achieved real results in the League of Nations. In the world qualifiers we play with teams that are developing. The facts are as follows - we have scored 1 goal, we have conceded 16. We have problems in defense and attack. There is a problem with psychology. The new coaches took over the team at a very difficult time and it will not be easy for them. We are very divided, and we need unity. If there is no patience and humility, nothing good awaits us. I do not see how negativity can help the team", he shared in an interview for the show "Arena Sport".

Petrov believes in the qualities of Svetoslav Vutsov and wants the best decision to be made for Bulgarian football, regarding his place in the national team.

"I really like Svetlyo Vutsov. He kept well and played regularly in Slavia. I had no problems with him. He is developing in an upward direction. The national team does not need such problems. It was late, it was fined. There is something in the team's kitchen, from which unnecessary tension arises. This is not in anyone's favor. The most important thing is what is shown on the field. Svetlyo played a good match against Spain. I do not agree with bringing things out of the kitchen. I call on the meeting to do the best for Bulgarian football", added the former footballer.

According to him, the young Bulgarian footballers represent the light at the end of the tunnel.

"For the state of the national team, we cannot only renew the footballers. We are all to blame. Let's unite and find the right solution. Let more young footballers come in and play. We need to take an even wider step. There is light at the end of the tunnel, but we need to look hard. We need to walk this path all together. More people who love football need to invest positive energy", added Petrov.
